About the Team:Advancement sits within the broader Engagement and Advancement group in the Community, External Relations and Partnerships Portfolio. Together, we help the University deliver excellent educational programs by building a strong community of engaged alumni, donors, and partners.
The Advancement team leads VU’s relationships with alumni and philanthropic donors, connecting people who care with opportunities to create meaningful impact. We champion a culture of giving and lifelong learning, managing partnerships that support life‑changing student scholarships, support programs, and research that benefits people, place, and planet. We also maintain lifelong connections with VU’s 300,000+ alumni across 130 countries, celebrating their achievements and keeping them involved well beyond graduation.
Guided by our 2025–2029 Advancement Plan, we drive growth in philanthropic income and engagement to support VU’s strategic goals. The work is fast‑paced and purposeful, delivering real value and impact across the University community.
About the Role:
Working with the Director of Advancement, the Associate Director of Philanthropy, and the Alumni Manager, you will lead the Advancement Operations team to deliver impactful strategic projects and strengthen operational performance.
You’ll drive the development of the systems and frameworks that support fundraising, alumni engagement, and stakeholder relations, while building strong internal and external partnerships to enhance outcomes and elevate VU’s reputation.
You will also lead key cross‑departmental initiatives, develop effective reporting tools, and oversee core Advancement resources, including the CRM and marketing and communications tech stack.
Position Key Duties - Managing the planning, development and implementation of the operational infrastructure and frameworks for Advancement to achieve fundraising, alumni and stakeholder relations goals.
Developing and maintaining relationships with internal colleagues and external suppliers and stakeholders to maximise outcomes, strengthen relationships, and enhance VUs reputation.
Leading strategic, cross-departmental projects to deliver against Advancement Plan targets.
Leading the development of reporting metrics and platforms for the Advancement unit
Leading the management of Advancement management resources, including the CRM and marketing and communications stack.
Salary: HEP 9 - $132,942 - $138,314 – Plus 17% Superannuation
Employment Type: Full Time – Ongoing/Permanent
Hours: 36.75 – 1.0 FTE
Location: Footscray Park Campus – 3 days on site.

About You: The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent initiative, judgement and high-level problem solving skills in developing and implementing an engagement plan that delivers beneficial outcomes to internal and external stakeholders of the University.
The successful applicant will have:Demonstrated experience of management in a complex service environment, with a focus on delivering excellent service to multiple internal and external stakeholders Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and operational leadership across marketing and fundraising, data, financial and resource management.Demonstrated high-level communication, cross-cultural, negotiation and interpersonal skills Demonstrated experience in managing competing demands including management of operations, the development of policy, procedures and trainingDemonstrated initiative, to drive and deliver continuous improvement.
