Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Finance and Operational Services, this position provides high level financial analysis, planning support and operational oversight for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS). The role is responsible for complex student financial operations while serving as a key advisor on long-term planning, resource optimization and financial policy. This position integrates financial analysis, forecasting, modeling, and data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making and ensure CAPS’s fiscal sustainability across diverse budget types, including gifts, revenue accounts, grants, contracts, endowments, self-sustaining budgets, and state funds.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Budgeting

  • Support the Director by providing analytical leadership across CAPS’s budget, accounting, and functions, ensuring systems, processes, and controls promote financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Translate academic, operational, and enrollment plans into multi-year financial scenarios and contribute to the development of CAPS’s annual and long-range all-funds operating budget.
  • Conduct monthly variance, trend, and quarterly forecasting analyses to identify financial risks, opportunities, and resource needs; recommend action steps and spending adjustments that align with strategic priorities.
  • Oversee fiscal operations including reconciliations, allocations, and year end close, applying analytical review to strengthen compliance and integrity.
  • Collaborate with CFU accounting and financial planning to resolve complex financial issues and align CAPS's financial operations with institutional policies.
  •  Oversee instructor and academic payroll processes in Workday, ensuring accurate costing, appointments, workflow routing, and compliance with university policy and the adjunct collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintain and optimize financial data systems, including designing, refining, and analyzing reports from Workday Finance and Workday HCM to support forecasting, budgeting, and operational decision-making.
  • Assist Director of Finance and Operational Services with functions related to CAPS, Workday FDM and HRM structure, including but not limited to cost center hierarchy, chart of accounts maintenance, work tags, non-carryforwards, projects, gifts, grants, and endowments; serve in lead security roles in Workday.

Student Financial Strategy & Operations

  • Provide strategic oversight of student financial processes, ensuring accurate billing, collections, payment processing, and financial communication across undergraduate, graduate, and noncredit students.
  • Collaborate with Student Financial Services (SFS) in PowerFAIDS awarding, by providing necessary CAPS program data, reviewing aid trends, and ensuring alignment with tuition structures and institutional policies.
  • Oversee CAPS scholarship awarding, collaborating closely with the Academic and Student Success teams to identify eligible students, evaluate need and merit factors, and determine award levels.
  • Create, review and analyze reports from Workday Student to monitor student financial activity, enrollment trends, outstanding balances, and operational impacts on revenue and aid.
  • Oversee financial services policy changes that improve and maintain student retention and satisfaction.

Financial Analysis, Reporting & Special Projects

  • In collaboration with CAPS Statistical Data Analyst, develop and maintain comprehensive financial reports and dashboards across budgets, payroll, student accounts, scholarships, enrollment trends, academic programs, and restricted funds.
  • Integrate and analyze data from Workday Finance, Workday HCM, and Workday Student to support forecasting, tuition modeling, and strategic decision-making.
  • Execute high-impact special projects aligned with CAPS’s strategic priorities. Provide strategic insights and recommendations to the Director and senior leadership.
  • Conduct complex financial modeling and scenario planning.

Policy, Systems, and Process Improvement

  • Develop, implement, and refine financial and operational policies that strengthen internal controls and improve efficiency.
  • Evaluate and enhance workflows and data structures in Workday Finance, Workday HCM, and Workday Student.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource to CAPS colleagues on financial processes, systems, compliance, and best practices.

Salary Range

$58,400.00 - $99,700.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
