Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The Manager, Health Information Management is responsible for the operational leadership, administrative oversight, and daily supervision of all health information management functions within their assigned facility or facilities. The incumbent is accountable for all operational, administrative, and supervisory activities within the assigned HIM program, ensuring health information management services are performed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory, accreditation, revenue cycle, and health system standards. The Manager provides direct oversight to supervisory and HIM coworkers across all assigned functional areas and participates in hands-on operational activities as needed. This position is accountable for departmental performance, including operational processes and financial stewardship, and collaborates with clinical, physician, compliance, coding, revenue cycle, and administrative leadership to support quality improvement initiatives, coworker development, technology and workflow planning, and the achievement of departmental performance goals. The Manager serves as a role model and primary resource to coworkers and others, exercising independent judgment in managing day-to-day departmental operations, coworker scheduling, and the execution of established health information management program objectives.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of Joint Commission and Title XXII guidelines for Health Information Management and HIPPA standards
  • Strong work knowledge of relevant document management Applications/Systems
  • Prior supervisory experience, as well as experience working with enterprise scanning and document management
  • Minimum 3 years managerial/supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements relative to the release of medical information (e.g. scanning and indexing)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills including: assessing work activities and allocating resources appropriately
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills including: guiding individuals and groups toward desired outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering leading quality services
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to proactively prioritize needs and effectively manage resources
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to compile, interpret and evaluate statistical and medical data

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in Total Quality Management or Lean Six Sigma
  • RHIT or RHIA certification (or in process/nearing completion) is highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, in an Health Information Management environment
