General Responsibilities:
To administratively manage one or more program/s within the School of Public Health (SPH). To independently design, develop and administer program content for the assigned program. To establish program objectives, maintain policies and procedures, serve as the liaison between the program and internal/external stakeholders. To provide administrative support to faculty, staff, students and the outside community. To manage assigned program operations, develop and provide reports and/or analyses.

This will be a one-year position, as the grant only covers 12 months of support for the role.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor criteria air pollutant concentrations in two emission-impacted neighborhoods in Birmingham, AL, as well as monitor concentrations of key volatile organic compounds.
  2. The goal is to provide these communities with near-real-time access to data on the quality of the air that they are breathing and better understand emission patterns and exposures.
  3. Work closely with the Principal Investigator of the grant/project to complete the project activities.
  4. Primary activities include frequent site visits (in the Birmingham city area), calibration of air monitors, and installing them in locations outlined in the project.
  5. Monitor data from the air monitors, trouble shooting, and maintaining quality assurance.
  6. Will organize community meetings, interact with stakeholders, including community leaders, Birmingham City representatives, and other stakeholders, to organize community sessions to share information and data with community partners.
  7. Monthly reports will be prepared and progress monitored.
  8. Assist with preparing publications, working with students, and helping with grant proposals.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Pay Range: $55,000 - $65,000

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Degrees considered:
Environmental Science, Public Health-related, Other related science fields

Preferences:
* A background in air pollution monitoring/exposure assessment/environmental health or public health.
* Project management experience.
* The ability to successfully work with communities and city officials is an advantage.
