Job Description

The University of Missouri (MU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Master of Health Administration (MHA) Program Director in the Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health Sciences. Reporting to the Chair of Department of Health Sciences, the Program Director will be responsible for shaping the program’s strategic vision to position the program as a leader in preparing future health care executives, while ensuring continued innovation and alignment with emerging trends in health care management and graduate education.

About The Department of Health Sciences

Housed in The College of Health Sciences, the Department of Health Sciences (DHS) serves Missouri and beyond through innovative research, experiential learning, and education in health policy, health administration, public health, and pre-professional health care preparation. Our award-winning faculty fosters a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment that supports growth and discovery. DHS also advances health care leadership through its Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) accredited Master of Health Administration (MHA) program—offered in residential and executive hybrid formats—which equips graduates to lead in an evolving health care landscape. Graduates of the MHA program are leaders across the health care landscape. Shaping systems, driving innovation, and improving the delivery of care nationwide.

Position Overview

The Master of Health Administration Program Director will provide strategic leadership to enhance the program’s reputation, curriculum, and industry impact. The director will guide program development, teach and mentor students, support faculty excellence, and strengthen partnerships with health care organizations and alumni. This role also oversees operations, budgeting, and accreditation with CAHME to ensure quality and continuous improvement, positioning MU’s MHA program as a premier location for health administration education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Vision and Program Leadership
    • Lead a re-envisioning of the MHA program to strengthen its relevance, reputation, and national standing.
    • Develop and execute a strategic vision that positions the program as a leader in preparing future health care executives.
    • Drive innovation and growth through strong leadership, communication, and change management.
  • Curriculum and Academic Excellence
    • Oversee curriculum development and alignment with industry standards and the NCHL Health Leadership Competency Model.
    • Integrate leadership, strategy, and management skills to prepare students for executive roles
    • Teach in both residential and hybrid executive MHA programs and promote continuous academic improvement.
  • Faculty, Staff, and Student Success
    • Support and mentor faculty, staff, and students to foster collaboration, excellence, and professional growth.
    • Lead recruitment, evaluation, and reporting processes to ensure program quality and accountability.
    • Oversee student recruitment, advising, and retention to promote success and engagement.
  • External Relations and Partnerships
    • Build partnerships with health care organizations, alumni, donors, and community stakeholders to expand experiential learning and career opportunities.
    • Collaborate with university advancement and marketing teams to elevate program visibility and impact.
    • Ensure compliance, accreditation, and continuous improvement in all program operations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in Health (Service) Administration, Health Management, or a related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in health care delivery, management, strategy, or finance
  • Experience teaching graduate-level courses in health management, health policy, strategic planning, and related areas.
  • National recognition in the field of health care administration, management, or policy.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and expanding online and hybrid programs utilizing innovative digital pedagogy.
  • Proven ability to secure external funding and cultivate strategic partnerships that advance program goals.
  • Commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within the university and with external partners.
  • Strong professional network and established relationships with regional and national health care organizations that support student internships and career placements.

The future Director will serve in this administrative capacity at 50% (0.5 FTE) and enjoy a reduced teaching load during the time serving in this administrative role.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $130,000 - $170,000 annually.
