About This Opportunity
The Property and Facilities Division is seeking a motivated Mechanical Infrastructure Officer. Locally known as a Mechanical Infrastructure Engineer to join the Infrastructure & Sustainability team until May 2027. This role has become available due to a team member taking up an internal secondment and presents a strong opportunity for an early-career or graduate-level engineer with 1-2 years’ experience to support the team and gain practical experience within a large, complex institution.
Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the role supports mechanical infrastructure across new builds, refurbishments and maintenance projects, with a strong focus on learning, development and exposure to real-world engineering environments.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting mechanical infrastructure activities across construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects
- Reviewing and interpreting mechanical drawings, undertaking calculations and assisting with inspections and defect identification
- Assisting with defect inspections and rectification processes under supervision, including within the Soft Landings framework
- Providing engineering support to operational teams and contributing to continuous improvement and energy efficiency initiatives

About You
You will bring enthusiasm, curiosity and a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, along with a genuine interest in developing your capability in a supported environment. You will have:
- A Bachelor degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- A strong interest in mechanical building services and/or HVAC systems
- A proactive, energetic and learning-focused mindset, with the ability to take direction and develop skills under supervision
- The ability to work collaboratively within a technically focused team environment
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with a range of stakeholders
- Curiosity, professionalism and the personal qualities required to thrive in a developmental, early-career role
- Exposure to engineering software, programming or building systems is desirable but not essential
Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia, qualifications, criminal history checks, and other role-specific requirements.
