About the Job
The Academic Technologist 2 supports the work of faculty and the Academic Technology and Design team (ATD) in the development and incorporation of media and graphic design components in online, blended, and traditional courses. The Academic Technologist 2 is responsible for creating course related media and graphic design content, staying abreast of media and graphic design trends and technologies, and assisting in faculty technology training and development initiatives. Additionally, the Academic Technologist 2 produces public facing media content for the CCAPS Marketing department.
Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Multimedia Design and Development (70%)
- Assists CCAPS Media Specialist in the development of course videos (course promo videos, studio recordings, pre-to-post production of video, etc.): review and approve course content presentations for recording, review script and provide input into script, set-up studio equipment, capture video in a variety of recording styles, provide post production video editing and motion graphic design expertise and services, update course information webpages with latest course promo videos and syllabi, serve as Zoom facilitator for CCAPS courses, professional development and webinars.
- Creates graphic materials for CCAPS online courses (course banners, presentation templates, course badges, logos, motion graphics, etc.).
Faculty Support and Development (20%)
- Attends kick-off meetings for the design / revision / redesign of courses and advises on content capture options as well as student media use in online delivery.
- Provides faculty consultations, training, and support on course media and technology.
- Educates faculty about design principles and best practices in course content development: visual appeal, narrative approach, etc., design for engagement.
- Supports and trains faculty in the use of recording software: (e.g., Kaltura, Screencast-O-Matic, YouTube, and other software applications).
- Guides faculty in the effective use of media tools and platforms (e.g., Kaltura, Zoom, AI tools, multimedia authoring tools).
- Provides technical assistance to faculty to resolve questions and/or issues related to media in their courses.
Research and Consultation (10%)
- Keeps up-to-date on emerging tools and trends in media production.
- Participates in university wide communities of practice related to media and technology integration in courses to stay current with system-wide initiatives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in film and video production/multimedia design with two years of work experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years.
- Requires two years of work experience in the areas of film and video production/multimedia design with a related degree.
- Demonstrated ability to work concurrently on multiple projects of varying complexity and scope.
- Ability to interact effectively with instructors with a wide range of knowledge and comfort levels with technology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working in a team-focused environment. Demonstrated ability to work closely with others across functional boundaries and varying experience levels.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship skills.
- Ambition for continuous improvement and high personal performance standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Appropriate technical training in video and audio production, including familiarity with MAC and Windows based media authoring and editing software and media hosting solutions.
- Four years of work experience in the areas of film and video.
- Experience with media platforms such as Kaltura, YouTube, and FlipGrid.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Attention to detail.

- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with a large and diverse group of stakeholders and identify strategic needs.
