Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join the team at the Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU) Wolfson Laboratories, within the Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH), University of Oxford. The NDPH Wolfson laboratories provide centralized analytical services for large-scale international clinical trials, large epidemiological studies as well as a variety of smaller studies and trials. The laboratory holds ISO 17025 accreditation and is IBMS accredited as a training laboratory.
Responsibilities
The post holder will assist with the day-to-day requirements of the laboratory, including working in specimen reception, analytical areas and sample storage areas. You will operate a variety of specialist, high throughput analytical equipment including clinical chemistry and immunoassay analysers, nephelometers, automated liquid handling systems, microplate readers and HPLC systems, with minimal supervision. You will follow laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures, assisting senior laboratory staff with the gathering and summarising of data for assay performance and assay validation reports. All relevant training will be provided in post.
Requirements
You will have a degree in a biological science or equivalent experience. Recent graduates, including those holding a biomedical science degree looking to complete the IBMS Registration Training Portfolio would be considered. You will also have initiative and the proven ability to work independently, with a minimal level of supervision, as well as experience of general laboratory equipment and working in a laboratory environment. Experience of working in a GCLP and/or ISO 17025/15189 accredited laboratory environment would be desirable.

The post is full-time (although part-time is considered) and fixed term for 2 years. Salary: £32,108 - £37,338 (Standard Grade 5). Closing date for applications: noon on 27th March 2026.
