Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following full-time position: Director of Student Accounts in the Office of Student Accounts.
The Director of Student Accounts oversees all student billing, payment processing, collections, and refund operations for the University while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The role leads and develops a professional team responsible for daily financial operations, internal controls, and customer service. The Director collaborates across campus to enhance financial processes, leverage automation, support enrollment goals, and deliver a high-quality student experience.
Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting courses is required. Five (5) or more years of experience in a finance or accounting position to include general ledger, auditing and analysis is required. Previous supervisory experience is required. A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: A CPA, CIA, CFE or advanced degree in accounting or a related field is preferred. Experience in a higher education setting is preferred. Experience with Banner/Ellucian is preferred.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Billing of Tuition & Fees: Oversee the billing of tuition and fees for the University. This involves managing a team of employees, as well as working with other departments, to take the board approved rates and create billing tables that integrate with our agency’s financial system. Responsible for monitoring accounts for necessary billing adjustments due to change in status of student/course schedules. Ability to create dynamic tables to match new ideas i.e. discounting for certain cohorts of students for defined periods of time. Evaluate the needs of students and partner with companies to seamlessly offer beneficial products to customers and also present billing/collection information to new CCU students at Orientation.
- Collections & Payment Processes: Responsible for the collection of student bills. Involves creating payment deadlines and communication with students. Develop creative methods to initiate student payments and increase financial literacy of students. Executes Cancellation for Non-Payment and Re-instatement process with collaboration of CFO and other Administration to align with both financial directives and enrollment initiatives. The Student Accounts Director must ensure that staff are complying with federal and state collection laws and regulations, specifically the Fair Debt Collections Act.
- Refunds of Student Credit Balances: Administration of refunding student credit balances, which occurs when more payments than charges have been applied to the student account. Generally, this happens when an excess of financial aid is applied. Depending on the aid, there are various rules and regulations that need to be followed as part of the procedure, specifically Title IX funds of the Education Amendment Act.
- Custodian of Institutional Funds: Provides a central point of inflow for University funds. This involves creating/developing/implementing financial policies and procedures across a staff of 6 or more people. Monitor internal controls over the cash collection process. Also responsible for Administration of the receipting process of the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation.
- Cross-Campus Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other departments and Administration on campus (Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, DOS, VA, CGE, Provost Office, Budget Office, Financial Services) to accomplish shared financial goals for the University and continually modernize joint processes integrating AI and automation to increase efficiency, eliminate manual error and minimize process ‘silos’.
Accounting/ Fiscal Manager II (AD30/61122729/FTE-S01138P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Grade: GEN12. Salary range: $79,600.00 (minimum) – $111,500.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
