MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist
MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist
MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences – Development and Transcriptional Control
Fixed term (2 years) with potential for extension
About us
The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/) is a leading institute for discovery science, focused on the fundamental biology that drives health and disease. Based in London and closely linked to Imperial College London, LMS offers a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with strengths in epigenetics, developmental biology, and quantitative approaches. Our researchers are supported by cutting-edge facilities (https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/facilities/) and a strong commitment to scientific training and career development.
About the role
Understanding how the right cell types form in the right position and proportion during embryonic development represents one of the most important open questions in developmental biology. The Development and Transcriptional Control group (https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/research/development-and-transcriptional-control/) is tackling this challenge by investigating how cell identity is established and how it shapes the mammalian body. Our multidisciplinary approach integrates mouse developmental genetics, stem cell-based models of development, and genome engineering. These systems support quantitative and mechanistic studies, allowing us to address questions across scales: from the function of cis-regulatory elements, to the morphogenesis of the body plan (Amblard et al., Dev Cell, 2025). The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to develop new tools and methodologies to uncover the gene regulatory principles of mammalian development. The role offers opportunities to pursue independent research ideas within the lab’s core focus, with strong support for career development and scientific training.
About you
We’re seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to develop new tools and methodologies to dissect the function of cis-regulatory elements and how they impact mammalian development. The role offers opportunities to pursue independent research ideas within the lab’s core focus, with strong support for career development and scientific training. We welcome applicants eager to join and contribute to a collaborative and multidisciplinary team environment.
What we offer
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer defined benefit pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement (30 days plus 2.5 privilege days & 8 bank holidays), family friendly policies (6 months full pay maternity & adoption leave), a range of shopping/travel discounts, access to our Employee Assistant Programme Scheme, Health and Wellbeing Support and a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
