MRI Technologist

Completing MRI exams prescribed by a Radiologist that are completed on/at the posted shift/site once competencies have been acquired.
- Performs Diagnostic Procedures
- Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring that no contraindication to a safe and/or diagnostic procedure exists and that this information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner and HIPAA disclosure.
- Position patients, using appropriate hearing protection and immobilizing techniques pertinent to an age specific population.
- Apply principles of MR safety for patient, self, and others to provide an MR compatible environment in which to perform diagnostic procedures.
- Position patients to best demonstrate an anatomic area of interest, while respecting patient's ability, comfort, and safety.
- Selects appropriate imaging coil and operate MR equipment according to the established protocols.
- Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
- Prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media under the direction of a Radiologist and Department protocol.
- Provides instruction for patients, students and/or health care professionals.
- Understands and apply Guest Relation skills. Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Ensures that the scan room and the control room are stocked appropriately with the necessary items to conduct and safe MRI exam. (IV supplies, Linens)
- Stay in constant communication with technologists and lead technologists.
- Train new staff to meet department requirements.
- Take on the role of Lead Technologist and PCT when these positions have been acutely vacated.
- Train newer staff to meet the department requirements.
Requirements:
- Graduation from a school of radiologic technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (MR) or registration as a Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT). The first attempt must be within 6 months from hire/transfer. 3 attempts must be completed within 18 months from hire/transfer.
- MRI Registry eligible, Certification and Registration via ARRT or ARMRIT First attempt must be within 6 months from hire/transfer. 3 attempts must be completed within 18 months from hire/transfer.
- Cross-trainer Candidates (Currently certified in XR, CT, US, ND) must pass their MRI board up to 18 months from their hire date
- Reasonable experience in diagnostic radiography.
- This classification requires Primary Source Verification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Recent hospital-based MRI experience.
- MRI advanced imaging and research experience.
- Epic experience
- IV Experience
Hours and Days: 4 shifts from 10p-7a, working every other weekend
Scheduling Flexibility: The department makes every effort to provide consistent schedules; however, shifts and schedules may be adjusted as necessary to meet patient care and operational requirements.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
