MSK Ultrasound Manager

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Operations, MSK Ultrasound Manager is an experienced professional with strong collaboration and leadership skills. In this role, the incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for Interpretation, and archiving musculoskeletal ultrasound and other ultrasound images, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound area. The incumbent will be responsible for developing the Ultrasound MSK program and will support a collaborative team of technologists by training technologists in MSK protocols, providing day-to-day guidance and mentorship, and supporting quality assurance and control activities.

Responsibilities

Clinical Operations

  • Provide high-quality diagnostic and interventional ultrasound services in accordance with established clinical standards and institutional protocols.
  • Independently perform a broad range of sonographic examinations for adult and pediatric patients, including musculoskeletal, abdominal, soft tissue, gynecologic, renal, thyroid, scrotal, and vascular studies.
  • Assist with and support ultrasound-guided procedures, including injections, aspirations, biopsies, barbotage, and PRP.
  • Review imaging requests for clinical appropriateness and collaborate with radiologists and referring providers as needed.
  • Ensure optimal image quality through proper patient positioning, protocol selection, and quality assessment prior to submission for interpretation.
  • Monitor patient condition during procedures, address safety or comfort concerns, and provide clear explanations of diagnostic processes.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform quality assurance on ultrasound equipment; maintain required logs and participate in inspections.
  • Maintain a clean, safe patient care environment and ensure adequate inventory of supplies and personal protective equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with MSK radiologists, orthopedic and sports medicine providers, and referring clinicians to ensure high-quality imaging outcomes.

Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Manage image acquisition, processing, documentation, and archiving in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, EH&S, and organizational safety and privacy policies.
  • Participate in ongoing education to maintain technical competency and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to workflow improvements, protocol development, and operational efficiency.
  • Engage in quality review activities, case evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage MSK ultrasound inventory, equipment needs, and supply ordering with cost-effective practices in mind.
  • Collaborate with medical leadership and operations teams on equipment selection, system optimization, and workflow enhancements.

Program Development and Leadership

  • Lead the development and expansion of the MSK ultrasound program, including protocol development, technologist training, and educational initiatives.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate ultrasound technologists in MSK best practices; assess competencies and support performance development.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of experienced MSK sonographers.
  • Provide partial oversight of scheduling and patient coordination support staff in collaboration with the practice manager.
  • Coordinate staffing coverage for dedicated MSK ultrasound services and support MSK training schedules to ensure operational continuity.
  • Collaborate with Interventional Radiology and marketing teams on aligned services and program promotion.
  • Participate in safety huddles, quality improvement projects, and initiatives that promote a culture of safety and transparency.
  • Provide clinical coverage across NYC and Westchester locations as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four (4) years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with supporting recruitment, training, and performance management for technologists preferred.

Other Requirements

  • NYS License, ARDMS certified with RMSKS credential.
  • Demonstrated leadership proficiency in a team environment, including communication, training/knowledge-sharing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated participation in continuous improvement or quality initiatives.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population, demonstrating tact, respect, and empathy.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
  • Must be an engaged team member, demonstrating collaboration, inclusion, reliability, adaptability to new and changing situations, and ability to lead others through change.
  • Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
  • Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
  • Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).

Job Type: Officer of Administration

Hours Per Week: 35

Salary Range: $140,000-$160,000
