The Forefront of Cancer Immunotherapy

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the nation’s leading cancer center, invites applications for multiple faculty positions in the James P. Allison InstituteTM. The Allison InstituteTM is a world-class research environment that builds upon the foundational work of Dr. James P. Allison to unlock the full potential of immunotherapy. It integrates the full spectrum of modern immunology - from tumor microenvironment biology and immune regulation to immune engineering, data science, and advanced analytical technologies - to achieve lasting and meaningful benefits to patients.

Our defining strength is the seamless integration of discovery science with clinical insight. Close alignment with patient care and clinical trials enables rapid hypothesis testing and translation. A deeply collaborative culture unites basic researchers, clinicians, and computational scientists into a synergistic accelerator model that shortens the path from discovery to patient impact.

Our faculty pursue mechanistic and systems-level insights into tumor–immune interactions, immune evasion and resistance, and therapeutic response. Research programs are strengthened by immune engineering strategies and cutting-edge technologies, including high-dimensional immune profiling, spatial and multi-omic technologies, computational modeling, and data science enabling rapid discovery and translation.

The Opportunity

We seek investigators with impactful, original research programs that are shaping the direction of the field, across all disciplines to accelerate scientific and clinical progress. Faculty candidates may pursue basic, translational, clinical, or data science approaches and are expected to bring bold, original ideas with clear potential to evolve our understanding and treatment of cancer.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. Basic and translational scientists should demonstrate strong postdoctoral training and outstanding publications. For candidates in data science, immune modeling, visualization, or dissemination and implementation science, demonstrated impact and innovation may substitute for traditional training timelines. Successful candidates are expected to establish independent, extramurally funded research programs and foster multidisciplinary collaboration.

Support

The institution offers competitive compensation, substantial start-up support, and additional research support from the Allison Institute. Faculty will have access to outstanding graduate and postdoctoral candidates from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. In addition, faculty are encouraged to pursue external recruitment and research awards, including support from the Cancer Research and Prevention Institute of Texas (CPRIT).

Application

Interested applicants should submit a single PDF containing a curriculum vitae, a brief research statement (≤3 pages), three representative publications, and referee contact information to AllisonInstituteRecruitment@mdanderson.org.

There is no deadline to apply, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
