Job Description
North Hennepin Community College, one of the most diverse and vibrant two-year colleges in Minnesota, is accepting applications for a fixed-term, full-time Music Faculty position for a two-year (2) term.
The Music Department at NHCC seeks an innovative Music instructor dedicated to excellence in teaching. Candidates will desire to become part of a creative, energetic, student-centered academic department. Faculty members work as a team to consistently deliver content to students interested in pursuing their AFA in Music along with offering survey music classes, large ensembles, and private group and individual lessons. - Teach in-person as well as alternative delivery modes, including but not limited to asynchronous online and hybrid formats.
- Develop and revise instructional and assessment materials.
- Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Participate in department, division, and college matters through service on committees and attendance at regular meetings.
- Maintain continued professional development in Music as well as in the areas of teaching and learning.
- Be flexible to teach during day, evening, and weekends.
Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the bargaining unit agreement. Entry-level range is $51,303 - $94,542 for a nine-month academic year, plus excellent benefits.
Full-time, unlimited faculty work 171 days during a nine-month academic year and receive excellent benefits, including health insurance (95% employer paid single premium or 90% employer paid family premium); life insurance; optional dental, short-and long-term disability and long-term care insurance; paid personal and sick leave; defined benefits and defined contribution (401(a) retirement plans); tuition waiver for employees and dependents; and optional 457 and 403(b) retirement savings plans.
Under the collective bargaining agreement with the Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF), new faculty to the system receive a salary placement based on education and related experience after accepting a job offer. The maximum salary at hire is $94,542 per academic year, depending on education and experience. Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree with a major in Music, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in Music.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience as primary vocal instructor teaching a variety of college-level music courses, including vocal instruction for both beginning and advanced students.
- At least two years’ experience conducting both auditioned and non-auditioned choral ensembles.
- Credibility as a performing artist.
- Experience teaching undergraduates in a community college setting.
- Evidence of commitment to student success and persistence.
- Experience with learner outcomes assessment and evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to educate adult learners, multi-lingual learners, students with disabilities, and international students.
- Experience serving diverse and historically underserved populations.
- Evidence of continuous professional development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Working knowledge of alternative instructional techniques and delivery methods such as online education, education platforms (D2L Brightspace), active learning strategies, music production, etc.
- Flexibility to teach daytime, evening, and weekend classes.
