The Department of Neurology in the Renaissance School of Medicine is seeking movement disorders neurologists to join our outstanding Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Center.

Stony Brook is home to the only DBS program, Tics and Tourette's Disorder TAA Center of Excellence and Huntington's Disease HDSA Center of Excellence in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. Suffolk County has a catchment area of 1.5 million residents, of which nearly a quarter of a million are geriatric. Stony Brook University Hospital is a 624-bed tertiary care university hospital. Its academic affiliate, Stony Brook University, is ranked #1 among New York state public universities. It has a state-of-the-art PET-MRI and other neuroimaging with a cyclotron. We are members of the Parkinson Study and Huntington Study Groups, with active clinical trials and investigator-initiated research.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of patients with Movement Disorders, including inpatient Movement Disorders consultations.
  • Commitment to community engagements and education.
  • Coverage of the general neurology or consult services.
  • Favorable weekend and overnight call responsibility shared equally among faculty.
  • Supervision of neurology residents and medical students.

This represents an exciting opportunity for a Movement Disorders neurologist interested in building an outpatient movement disorders practice at the region's premier academic medical center. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop innovative clinical, educational, and research programs to suit their unique academic interests.

Required Qualifications: MD, DO degree (or foreign equivalent). Movement Disorders fellowship training. Board Certified/Board Eligible in Neurology. Eligibility for New York State licensure.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years or more of fellowship training. Proficiency in DBS programming and botulinum toxin treatment. Experience in DBS intraoperative neurophysiology. Interest in building specialized programs focusing on neurogenetics, ataxia, or normal pressure hydrocephalus.

Non-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
