General Description:

The Workforce Development Department at Community College of Philadelphia is seeking an experienced and credentialed Adjunct Faculty member to lead instruction in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as part of our programs in advanced manufacturing. The ideal candidate will possess both technical expertise and instructional experience in Visual, Magnetic Particle, Penetrant, and Ultrasonic Testing methods. This position plays a key role in equipping students with the applied skills necessary for high-demand careers in industrial inspection and quality control. This part-time teaching role includes the potential for a faculty member to be considered for a full instructional load in the future. Specific Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and revise the educational curriculum for the NDT program techniques, including Visual, Magnetic Particle, Penetrant, and Ultrasonic Testing methods.
  • Teach theory and hands-on application aligned with industry certification standards (up to Level II).
  • Maintain and update all student competency and skills demonstration paperwork.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of existing technology to further learning for students. Incorporate instructional technology to support the learning process.
  • Manage the learning environment with a student-centered focus. Implement diverse teaching and learning strategies that accommodate the learning styles of students.
  • Strive for excellence in teaching, applying best practices in the field of discipline, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention. Recognize the unique needs, culture, and context of students and advocates for their learning and well-being.
  • Commitment to the College’s Mission: Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values.
  • External and Internal Community Relations: Actively participate in the academic life of the College; including participation in graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities and other cross functional teams. Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom, including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school students.
  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences, and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire others to achieve college, department, and individual success. Proactively identify and address problems.
  • Respect for Diversity: Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College’s faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assessment: Full participation in the assessment of student learning and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institution levels.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Level II certification in at least one NDT method.
  • 3–5 years of recent industry in NDT.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in education and training settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) experience.
  • Level III NDT certification in one or more methods.
  • Experience teaching adult learners or delivering workforce training.
  • Experience serving underrepresented populations in a community college or similar setting.
  • Bilingual or multilingual ability.
