Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Our instructors/trainers are experienced educators with in-depth knowledge in their subject matter field, deeply committed to providing exceptional student support and exhibiting strong organizational and communication skills. CCAPE's clients/students trust our instructors/trainers with sensitive information, and our instructors/trainers have the highest level of integrity in all interactions, including respecting client organizational cultures and climates. Our training programs and course opportunities are contract-based and/or subject to enrollment.

This Instructor role will design, lead, and deliver a customized Aviation Maintenance Technology Program through the Center for Community and Professional Education (CCAPE) at Cape Cod Community College, in partnership with an employer client, to prepare participants for their Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Guide a cohort of approximately 10-15 employees through a self-paced, 8-week e-learning module designed to prepare them for the three FAA Knowledge Exams: General, Airframe, and Powerplant.
  2. Develop and deliver a customized 48-hour Airframe & Powerplant Review and Exam Prep Practical, consisting of 12 hours per week over 4 weeks (two weekday evening sessions and one Saturday session).
  3. Provide hands-on, laboratory-based instruction at the Cape Cod Community College Plymouth campus, reinforcing e-learning concepts through applied practice in aircraft systems, materials, and maintenance procedures.
  4. Design instructional materials, assessments, and lab exercises aligned with FAA Part 147 standards and industry best practices.
  5. Maintain student progress records, provide weekly feedback, and ensure 100% completion and exam readiness for each participant.
  6. Collaborate with program leadership and the employer partner to evaluate learning outcomes and recommend curriculum updates based on participant performance and FAA regulation changes.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant Certification.
  2. Three years of relevant work experience in an aviation maintenance capacity.
  3. Demonstrated presentation skills in the classroom including integration of computer-based aviation software program(s).
  4. Commitment to the community college philosophy.
  5. Demonstrated evidence of keeping current in the fields of aviation and teaching.
  6. Ability to relate pedagogically to the needs and interests of students.
  7. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
  8. Potential to make significant contributions to curriculum and project development.
  9. Ability to meet the challenges of a broad curriculum and a student body with diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds.
  10. Ability to work flexible hours and manage multiple and competing priorities.
  11. Knowledge of pedagogical practice and theory.
  12. Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education.
  13. Ability to work and communicate cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.
  14. Effective oral and written communication skills, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  15. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate degree or higher in aviation or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  2. US Military Base Access / security clearance.
  3. Skilled user of PowerPoint, MSWord, and Excel.
  4. Ability to utilize media equipment.
  5. Ability to read/interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  6. Ability to maintain control in a classroom environment and diffuse difficult situations when necessary.
  7. Strong verbal, written, and teaching skills.
  8. Experience with the integration of aviation technology and alternative delivery systems of instruction in the teaching-learning process.
  9. Experience, an appreciation for, and commitment to working in a global, multicultural academic setting.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION: Part-time, up to 18 hours per week, project-based/contract position. Anticipated rate of pay of $75/hour for instruction, dependent upon qualifications including teaching and field experience. An additional (one-time) $1,200 stipend is available for curriculum development and student support. Non-benefited, non-unit position.
