Nurse Practitioner
Job Summary
Provide primary health care to individuals on-site in the Mercy University Student Health Office. This includes physical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up care, health education and emergency care. Facilitate access to outside care and referrals as needed. This position also assists in the development of campus-wide health initiatives.
This is a full time – 9-month position based on the Dobbs Ferry campus. May require travel to other campuses as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the acute and chronic management of patient’s medical needs
- Perform detailed history and physical examinations and develop appropriate management plans based on clinical impressions and working diagnoses
- Develop problem-based care plans, prepare orders, and prescribe medications/treatments
- Order and interpret diagnostic labs and ancillary testing
- Effectively communicate clinical information and follow up plans to patients
- Advise and educate patients concerning prevention of disease, risk factor reduction, and other dimensions of wellness
- Assist in the appropriate referral of patients to both internal and external resources/providers, including emergency care
- Collaborate with other health care providers to coordinate clinical care
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation of care provided within the electronic medical record in a timely manner
- Attend staff meetings and conferences as required
- Participate in quality improvement activities
- Assure patient’s safety and satisfaction
- Work effectively with and serve as a clinical resource for other Mercy University colleagues
- Participate in the administrative functioning of the Student Health office
- Comply with confidentiality requirements as set by HIPAA, FERPA, federal, state, and local regulations
Required Skills & Experience
- Must have greater than 3600 hours of relevant experience as a board-certified Nurse Practitioner. Experience as an NP in an Outpatient/College Health or ER facility preferred
- Current BLS/AED for health care providers
- Current DEA and Infection Control/Blood Borne Pathogens certificate
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, written and oral communication, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills
- Computer proficiency in MS Office suite of products and Internet required. Electronic Medical Record system proficiency preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner
- Cultural competency to work with diverse students and employee population
- Experience in higher education preferred
Education Requirements
- A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is required from an accredited program
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license
- Current New York State Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license, Family Nurse Practitioner preferred
- Current National Certification in specialty
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
