Nursing Faculty (40hr Full-time)
LSU Shreveport invites applications for the position of Nursing Faculty (full-time) for the LSUS Practical Nursing Program. We seek a colleague committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly engagement, and student success in a diverse and inclusive environment. This is a 40hr Monday-Friday position. Work shift varies accordingly to classroom and clinical times. The ability to be flexible with work hours is required. The position is based in Shreveport, Louisiana and is not a remote position.
The Practical Nursing Program is fully accredited by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners. The LSUS Practical Nursing Program is a 12-month certification program under The College of Education and Human Development. The mission of the LSUS PN program is to prepare students to provide quality professional care to clients in hospitals, physician’s offices and clinics, long term care facilities or where nursing services are required under the direction of a Licensed Physician, Optometrist, Dentist, or Registered Nurse. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students are prepared to sit for the National Licensure Exam for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).
Nursing Faculty at Louisiana State University Shreveport report to the Assistant Director and Director of the Licensed Practical Nursing Program. Faculty assist in the implementation of the program and assessment of student learning outcomes, as well as assist in the development and revision of the nursing curriculum.
Faculty provides classroom teaching, supervises students in the laboratory and clinical settings, as well as administer standardized testing. Faculty advise students and mentor them throughout the nursing program. Faculty are required to have knowledge and maintain currency in the nursing profession, as well as clinically competent.
- Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned classroom and clinical courses.
- Supervise and mentor students in their clinical and academic development.
- Implement the planned curriculum and maintain course material on the Learning Management System (e.g., Moodle).
- Assess student learning outcomes, including ongoing formative and final summative assessments to measure the students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor progress.
- Make appropriate clinical assignments and evaluate clinical sites.
- Assist students with following LPN academic standards and attendance requirements, notifying the Director of incidents of noncompliance.
- Prepare and present course content in a professional manner, utilizing a variety of teaching and evaluation methods to accommodate different learning styles (e.g., textbook, workbook, class discussion, case studies, quizzes, videos, demonstration).
- Promote positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, businesses, industries, agencies, as well as LSUS staff and students
- Assist the Assistant Director/coordinator in scheduling curriculum content and classroom scheduling.
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and evaluation records.
- Be punctual in class attendance and provide instruction for the complete class period.
- Notify students verbally and in writing of potential clinical or theory failure.
- Administer periodic test, assignments and informal classroom assessment to monitor the student’s performances.
- Be adaptable to schedule/load adjustments based on student census and accountable for a forty-hour workweek.
- Represent the school in a manner, appearance and behavior that promotes a positive image of the program.
- Serve as a role model for students in professional interaction with other health workers and with clinical facilities.
- Provide competent instruction in the clinical and theoretical areas of nursing, enabling students to pass the State Board of Practical Nursing Exam.
- Maintain high standards and promote excellence in education.
- Ensuring that the lab is well equipped and order supplies when needed.
Required Qualifications:
- A current Registered Nurse License, approved by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners.
- A Registered Nurse with a minimum of three years of nursing experience.
- At least one of these three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care. An applicant for nursing instructor must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application.
- CPR certified through the American Heart Association.
Note: No educational degree in nursing or in any other field shall substitute for the medical-surgical component.
