TITLE: Nursing Faculty Specialty; BSN Program

SUMMARY: The Bachelor of Science in Nursing faculty member is a 10-month, tenure-track nursing faculty position with a specialty focus in pediatrics, maternity, and/or psychiatric nursing. The nursing faculty member is responsible for ensuring that course student learning outcomes are met through the delivery of assigned lecture content and supervision of nursing laboratory and clinical experiences. Faculty are expected to utilize evidence-based teaching strategies, incorporate current best practices in nursing education, and foster a student-centered learning environment that promotes critical thinking, professional development, and clinical competence.

In addition to teaching, the faculty member actively participates in the mission, governance, and academic life of Anna Maria College. Responsibilities include curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programs. Faculty are also expected to contribute to scholarly activities, professional development, and service to the nursing profession and the broader community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching Responsibilities:
    • Promote high standards of academic achievement and integrity in assigned courses;
    • Implement established course syllabi or develop new syllabi in accordance with College standards;
    • Harmonize course content among sections of the same course;
    • Review student work and report grades to students on a timely basis;
    • Maintain documentation according to college and program policy;
    • Engage in continuing development of effective instructional strategies;
    • Hold regular office hours for student conferences;
    • Maintain a portfolio of student advisees, guiding them in progression toward degree;
    • Assist with the planning and implementation of clinical and lab teaching and learning for the assigned course(s);
    • Write letters of recommendation as requested by students or alumni of the Program;
    • Participate in relevant professional development activities to stay abreast in the field of nursing, and as required for the maintenance of professional licensure.
  • Service Responsibilities
    • Contribute to a collaborative and collegial working atmosphere within the Program and the College, supporting the stated missions, philosophies and goals;
    • Participate in faculty development and training;
    • Employ communication systems, technologies, and policies in service of the smooth operation of the institution;
    • Adhere to provisions described within the Faculty Guidebook and Faculty Handbook;
    • Serve on college-wide, faculty, and departmental committees, as needed.
  • Research Responsibilities
    • Encourage and support research and innovation in nursing;
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making;
    • Seek grant opportunities and/or partnerships to enhance research initiatives;
    • Maintain an innovative approach to course delivery, meeting students where they are.

EXPECTED RESULTS:

The Nursing Faculty will provide an opportunity for nursing students to complete course student learning necessary to fulfill requirements for eligibility to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervise and mentor nursing students in classroom, clinical, and laboratory settings.

CONTACTS:

  • Maintain verbal, written, and/or electronic communication with current and potential nursing students.
  • Communicate with alumni for program feedback and support.
  • Establish and maintain community connections.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO REACH ACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE:

  • Hold an advanced degree in Nursing; e.g., an earned doctorate in nursing or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Hold an unencumbered Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Possess a minimum of two years full-time nursing experience (or its equivalent) within the last five years with evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction.
  • Maintain expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities.
  • Documented clinical experience in nursing specialty of pediatrics, women’s health, and/or psychiatric nursing.
  • Provide documentation of current Healthcare Provider CPR requirements for clinical agencies.
  • Provide documentation of current health care requirements as required by the State of Massachusetts and assigned clinical agencies.
