Offset Duplicating Machine Operator II (Campus Title Printshop Assistant) - Mount Wachusett Community College
General Statement of Duties
The Print Shop Assistant will support the efficient operation of the print shop by performing various tasks as assigned by print shop supervisor related to print production, organization, and customer service. This position requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities. The Print Shop Assistant must also be physically capable of lifting heavy boxes, loading rolls of paper and standing for extended periods.
Responsibilities
- Clean and organize the print shop to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Lift, load and stock paper, equipment, and other materials weighing up to 50lbs as needed.
- Make deliveries to various departments throughout the building, ensuring timely and accurate distribution of printed materials.
- Assist with layout adjustments and file preparation when requested.
- Assist with operating and maintaining print shop equipment, such as printers, copiers, and bindery machines. To include new technology/printing equipment as the department advances.
- Conduct quality control checks on printed materials to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Assist the Print Shop Supervisor with inventory levels of paper, ink/toner, and other supplies, and ordering supplies when requested.
- Providing support for large-scale printing projects, including event signage, posters, and banners, installation and printing when requested.
- Provide support for bulk mail operations, including sorting, preparing and running mailing software, packaging materials, and delivering completed mailings to the post office in compliance with postal regulations.
- Training and certification courses when required for machine operation as requested.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues and performing basic maintenance tasks as needed.
- Maintaining the inventory, cleaning and supplies for the office copier fleet in the college community locations.
- Assisting with special projects or initiatives as assigned by the Print Shop Supervisor

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Applicants must have at least (A) six months of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the operation of offset printing equipment, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
Successfully complete education at the high school level or higher at a recognized trade, technical or vocational school with a major in graphic arts or printing may be substituted for the required experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to understand and apply the policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and/or symbols.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Knowledge of the methods used to operate and maintain offset duplicating machines and related equipment such as paper cutting machinery, collators, etc.
- Knowledge of offset duplicating procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of the materials and supplies used in offset duplicating machine operations.
- Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in connection with the operation of offset duplicating machines.
- Knowledge of the standard terminology used in connection with offset duplicating machine operations.
- Skill in the operation of offset duplicating machines and related equipment such as paper cutting machines, collators, etc.
- Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise and understandable manner.
- Ability to lead a group of workers.
