"Omar Khayyam Postdoctoral Research Associate in Iranian Studies"

The Center for Middle East Studies at Brown University seeks to appoint a scholar of Iranian Studies to a one-year post-doctoral research associate position, with a possibility of renewal for a second year. The position is open to candidates whose work explores topics related to modern or contemporary Iran, with a preference for work in the humanities or the humanistic social sciences (e.g., anthropology, sociology, history). We especially welcome candidates who thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and whose work is informed by comparative and global perspectives. The postdoctoral research associate receives up to two years of support, with the expectation that they will pursue research and participate fully in the intellectual life of the Center. Associates will teach one class a year for the Center for Middle East Studies, advise students, and participate in research-related programming on campus.

Scholars who received Ph.D.s within three years of the application deadline are eligible to apply. The postdoctoral research associate is required to be in residence in the Providence area during the academic year and will receive an annual stipend of $65,975, for this benefits-eligible position. Additional funding may be available for research expenses and research-related programming on campus depending on budgetary considerations. Candidates selected who have not completed all requirements for their degree by the start date of July 1, 2026, will be appointed at a reduced salary and title until all degree requirements are completed.
