Job Summary

The University of Colorado Cancer Center is currently seeking a full-time clinical health psychologist. The position will be at the Assistant to Associate Professor faculty rank appointed in the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology and located primarily at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. While working as a member of the oncology counseling team, this psychologist will function independently or with minimal supervision. The primary function of this role is to provide health and behavior interventions and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups within a diverse adult oncology population at the University of Colorado Hospital and Cancer Pavilion. The psychologist will work primarily in an outpatient context with the potential for some inpatient work to support medical oncology teams, patients, caregivers and their families. This role also offers the opportunity for remote telehealth work. Dependent on the psychologist's interest and experience, this role may also offer the following opportunities: clinical supervision of psychology doctoral fellows and pre-doctoral interns, program development and evaluation, quality improvement initiatives as well as leading or collaborating on scientific research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment of mental health concerns and diagnoses, psychosocial impacts of chronic disease, mental status and capacity.
  • Develop treatment plans and provide evidence-based therapy focused on coping with illness, behavior change, quality of life, sleep, pain and fears of recurrence.
  • End of life interventions with patients and their families to address existential distress and clarify the goals of treatment.
  • Address behavioral concerns that affect patient adherence to medical treatment.
  • Provide clinical interventions via multiple modalities including in-person, telehealth and consultation-liaison modalities.
  • Development of therapeutic groups and delivery of group therapy to individuals and families impacted by cancer.
  • Develop and present educational presentations based on identified need.
  • Contribute collaboratively to the overall development of the psychosocial team through program evaluation and leadership of new and existing programs in the cancer center.
  • Provide consultative services to multidisciplinary team of colleagues and the community.
  • Balance a full caseload and maintain timely, confidential, and appropriate documentation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Professor:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) from an accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • Required current license in good standing as a Psychologist in the State of Colorado or eligible to gain Colorado Licensure.
  • Experience in Psycho-Oncology and broader Health Psychology providing clinical services to an adult population.
Associate Professor:
  • Doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) from an accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • Required current license in good standing as a Psychologist in the State of Colorado or eligible to gain Colorado Licensure.
  • 5+ years' experience in Psycho-Oncology and broader Health Psychology providing clinical services to an adult population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship or postdoctoral training in clinical health psychology.
  • Three or more years of clinical experience with adult patients who experience chronic health conditions.
  • Research experience in psycho-oncology or health psychology.
  • Clinical experience working with grief and loss or end of life concerns.
  • Board Certification in Clinical Health Psychology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and equity, as well as experience and skill working with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Experience providing health and behavior interventions for anxiety, depression, insomnia, nausea, and pain.
  • Experience supervising psychology trainees in psycho-oncology or health psychology.
  • Experience providing group therapy.

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range for this position has been established as: Assistant Professor: $105,000-120,000; Associate Professor: $125,000-140,000.
