Job Description
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine. This position may be hired in a professor of practice or clinical track, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, with an anticipated academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Our department fosters a collaborative culture with opportunities to work with and learn from specialists in neurology, ECC, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, cardiology, medical, surgical and radiation oncology, dermatology, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and primary care. The duties of the successful applicant include participation in the teaching, service and scholarly missions of the college. The primary job responsibility will be to provide service and instruction within the veterinary teaching hospital. The successful candidate will provide and supervise clinical care delivered by students, interns, and residents assigned to the internal medicine service as well as consultation to clients and referring veterinarians. Support of our afterhours emergency service will be shared with other internists. The successful applicant is also expected to participate in didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students within a dynamic and interactive new curriculum. Duties will include participation in all aspects of training interns, residents, and graduate students. The remaining effort allocation of the applicant is focused on research and scholarly activities. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other researchers and contribute to the advancement of the practice of small animal internal medicine. Development of an independent research program is possible, but not required. A strong interest in teaching, collaborative research, and interest in fostering diversity in the curriculum and department are very desirable.
Required Qualifications
DVM or foreign equivalent degree by appointment start date. Successful completion of an approved residency training program by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) by appointment start date. Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by appointment start date. Must have a criminal background check. Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal interactions
Preferred Qualifications
Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) subspecialty of small animal internal medicine and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA). Clinical experience. Experience in teaching. Track record of scholarly activity. Good interpersonal skills and team player.
