Job Summary:

Job Duties:

The Department of Computer Science at Bucknell University welcomes applications for a full-time, in-person, three-year renewable Professional Track position to begin in the fall semester of 2026. The starting rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek dynamic educators who are excited to teach foundational undergraduate Computer Science courses such as Introduction to Computer Science, Data Structures, Software Engineering, Computer Organization, Algorithm Design, and Computing Ethics in Society. There may also be opportunities to teach courses beyond the core curriculum. We encourage applications from individuals with expertise in any field of Computer Science and related fields.

Our department of 15 faculty is collegial and collaborative. We look forward to welcoming, supporting, and mentoring new colleagues. We strongly encourage all qualified applications to apply, including those from underrepresented groups in higher education.

This position is a full-time, in-person, nine-month annually, benefits-eligible, exempt faculty, three-year renewable position.

Responsibilities

The individual in this position will effectively teach six courses per year (with lab sections counting as a half course). Individuals will also be expected to engage in service at the department, college, and/or university level. This service may include advising and mentoring students, participating in curriculum development and assessment, and serving on faculty committees. There are also opportunities for research activities, but no requirement.

Support and Advancement

Bucknell values professional track colleagues as full members of the Faculty and provides extensive resources to support their growth, including a robust Teaching & Learning Center. Professional track faculty are eligible to vote in University and College faculty meetings and serve on faculty committees.

Faculty in the College of Engineering receive annual funding for professional development and scholarly engagement. These funds can support any appropriate professional development activity, including travel and attendance at conferences and workshops for professional growth.

Professional track faculty are reviewed every three years, with the initial review occurring prior to the third year of the appointment. Excellent teaching is the primary criterion for renewal and promotion. This track includes three successive ranks. Faculty become eligible for promotion to the next rank after six years of service at their current rank. Prior equivalent service may be applied toward promotion.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold an MS or PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field by the start of employment and have demonstrated effective teaching, which may include TA roles.

Compensation

Salary is based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the position's qualifications, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

Benefits

Eligible employees are compensated beyond base salary through our total rewards package, which includes:

  • Medical, prescription drug, vision, and dental insurance.
  • An outstanding 10% employer contribution to your retirement plan (after one year).
  • Tuition remission for yourself, spouse/spousal equivalent, and children (after a waiting period).
  • A comprehensive employee wellness program.
  • Parental leave, an employee assistance program, and fitness center membership.

Application Instructions

We will begin reviewing applications on Feb 1, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.

Application requires:

  • A cover letter clearly articulating your interest in working at Bucknell University, a primarily undergraduate liberal arts institution, and how your experiences, knowledge, and/or past accomplishments will contribute to the University's goals.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • A statement of teaching philosophy, techniques, and experiences, including your approach to supporting a diverse student body, and provides context for the optional teaching portfolio (2 pages maximum).
  • Copies of unofficial transcripts.

Optional:

  • A representative teaching portfolio (10 pages maximum). This could include a combination of relevant course syllabi, sample course materials (e.g., specific assignments, rubrics, exams, or student feedback), and teaching or performance evaluations. Context for this material should be provided in the teaching statement and/or cover letter.

Candidates selected to progress in the interview process will be requested to provide contact information for three confidential references. At least two of these references should be able to specifically address your potential as an effective teacher, including your instructional abilities, methods, and engagement with students.
