About the Opportunity
The Department of Art + Design in the College of Arts, Media, and Design invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Teaching Professor in Design at the rank of Assistant, or Associate, or Full. All classes will be taught at the Oakland campus in Oakland, California. We seek an innovative colleague eager to contribute to the growth and creative evolution of the undergraduate Design program.
The full-time faculty member for the Oakland campus is expected to teach core design courses while integrating their professional practice, creative processes, and research into their pedagogy. This role provides opportunities to explore and contribute to the campus's current thematic focus areas which include fabrication, sustainability, science communication, and the relationship between material culture and technology. Teaching topics may also reflect the candidate's local and global experiences, as well as their expertise in areas such as graphic design, information design, interaction design, experience design, and typography.
Class formats will include a range of pedagogical approaches, from design studios and workshops to seminars and lectures, offering students diverse ways to engage with contemporary design challenges. A successful candidate will be an engaged maker with a strong record of professional practice and research, demonstrating an expansive and interdisciplinary view of the field of design.
Responsibilities
The full-time faculty member will be responsible for teaching core courses in design. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member will play a key role in shaping and coordinating curricular initiatives, fostering a vibrant and inclusive design community on the Oakland campus. They will collaborate closely with faculty and staff in Boston to align academic operations, contribute to shared departmental goals, and support the integration of themes and practices across campuses. A full course load with a 1.0 fte appointment will be three 4-credit courses per semester (6 in total). With a two-thirds time appointment, the course load is reduced to 2 courses per semester. The position's standard duties consist of 80% teaching, 10% service and 10% creative practice.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a terminal degree in the anticipated focus areas of teaching. Rank as an Assistant, Associate or Full teaching professor will be assessed in consideration of the candidate's previous teaching experience and creative practice and/or research experience.

The expected hiring ranges by rank are: Assistant Teaching Professor: $64,200 - $77,775; Associate Teaching Professor: $72,945 - $90,625; Teaching Professor: $80,450 - $100,860.
