Department Information
The Department of Special Education in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in Special Education. The College of Education is a doctoral-granting unit and a recognized leader in preparing exemplary practitioners and scholar-leaders. The University of West Georgia offers strong institutional support for faculty research, mentoring, external funding, and partnerships with P-12 school districts.
Located 45 miles west of Atlanta, UWG is a rapidly growing, doctoral comprehensive university with a diverse faculty and student body. The Department of Special Education offers fully online B.S.Ed., M.A.T., M.Ed., and Ed.S. Programs and has the largest graduate enrollment in Special Education in the state of Georgia.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, scholarship, and service aligned with the mission of the department and university, while supporting continued program growth and innovation in special education preparation.

Job Summary
This is a tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in the Special Education program. We seek a scholar-practitioner with expertise in one or more areas of special education, including:
- Special education leadership
- Literacy and reading instruction for students with disabilities
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Assistive technology
- Multilingual learners
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education, contribute to an active program of scholarship appropriate to rank, engage in service to the department, college, and profession, and support student success. An on-campus presence is required for meetings, events, and other faculty responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in special education, including high-quality online instruction
- Maintain an active program of scholarship and/or creative activity appropriate to rank and tenure expectations
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committees and professional organizations (in-person and on-campus)
- Collaborate with P-12 schools and community partners and support student mentoring and success initiatives
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required Education:
Earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Special Education or a closely related field (ABD considered at Assistant Professor level)
Required Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience teaching students with disabilities in P-12 school settings
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
Successful experience with one or more of the following areas:
- University-level online teaching experience
- Leadership experience in special education or related educational settings
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Special education leadership
- Literacy and reading instruction for students with disabilities
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Assistive technology
- Online course design
Proposed Salary
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
