Outreach Coordinator, Skin Cancer Institute
Position Highlights
The Outreach Coordinator supports community health education and outreach activities for the University of Arizona Cancer Center Skin Cancer Institute (SCI). This role assists with developing and delivering evidence-based skin cancer prevention programs, coordinating community outreach events, engaging various populations and community partners, and supporting program evaluation activities.
Working under the direction of SCI leadership, the Community Outreach Professional II represents SCI at health fairs, schools, statewide coalitions, and community events; provides sun-safety and skin cancer education. They also coordinate with students and volunteers as SCI Outreach Ambassadors and assist with maintaining strong community partnerships.
This position involves local travel in the Tucson and/or Phoenix area. There will be shifts on weekends and in the evenings for events, as required by the department.

Duties & Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Education Implementation
- Coordinate the work of volunteers, students, and interns participating in outreach events. Provide training and support to this group, review and ensure presentations and events run smoothly, and lead the team to events.
- Deliver SCI skin cancer prevention programming, including Project SASS, school-based presentations, community workshops, and sun-safety trainings.
- Represent SCI at health fairs, community outreach events, conferences, and statewide coalition meetings.
- Assist in developing and updating educational materials, presentations, and digital resources. Be knowledgeable about existing educational materials and programs, assists in developing new resources as needs arise.
- Engage and educate diverse populations, ensuring culturally responsive and accessible programming.
Outreach Program Coordination and Support
- Maintain communication with schools, community partners, and statewide organizations.
- Prepare event materials, track outreach requests, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Assist in recruitment and coordination of student participants for SCI education efforts.
- May require attending community events in the evening and/or weekends.
- May require overnight travel across the state.
Data Collection & Program Evaluation
- Collect and manage outreach evaluation data, attendance sheets, surveys, and feedback.
- Support evaluation efforts to measure program reach, participant outcomes, and community impact.
Internal Support & Team Collaboration
- Provide logistical support for SCI education initiatives and collaborative activities with other UACC units.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to planning discussions related to outreach strategy.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate health information to diverse audiences.
- Strong public-speaking and presentation skills.
- Ability to build rapport with community partners, schools, and various populations.
- Knowledge of health promotion and community engagement best practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills for event coordination, scheduling, and logistics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and presentation tools.
- Ability to travel to outreach and education events, which could include some evening, overnight and/or weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Education, Health Promotion, Social Sciences, or related field; and, 1 year of relevant work experience, in community outreach, health education, youth programming, or similar work.
- OR equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cancer prevention or chronic disease prevention programming.
- Demonstrated experience working in public-facing or community-engagement roles.
- Experience delivering structured curriculum or teaching in group settings.
- Experience with program evaluation, data entry, and report preparation.
- Experience working with youth and school-based programming.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
