Position Highlights

With supervision from the Outreach and Engagement Core (OEC) leadership of the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention, the Outreach Specialist supports the development, delivery, and evaluation of cancer-focused educational and community programs for external audiences including students, tribal communities, health care providers, and community partners. The position promotes and fosters lifelong learning and outreach activities for individuals, families, organizations, and communities through trainings, community events, and webinars.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the OEC lead and student assistant, the outreach specialist supports the planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of programs to foster ongoing learning and cancer-related education to Native American communities in Arizona and the U.S.
  • Coordinates with the outreach and engagement leadership and partners to deliver content, programs, materials, and technology solutions, as needed, to support OEC-led community-focused events, webinars/online learning events, and trainings.
  • Researches and assesses cancer-related educational needs and interests for Native American communities in Arizona and the U.S.
  • Guides the student assistant in the outreach and engagement core.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with different groups/individuals.
  • Knowledge about effective engagement approaches and comfort in public speaking and presenting information to large groups.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Skill in writing and other forms of communication (e.g. document design with Canva).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in health-related and/or social/behavioral science field and one year experience conducting outreach activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Public Health preferred.
