Position Summary
San Diego State University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Parking Officer II to support the daily operations of Transportation Services. Under the direction of the Associate Director or designee, this position plays a key role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and customer-focused operation of campus parking services.
The Parking Officer II coordinates multiple parking-related functions to support daily enforcement and event operations. The incumbent will patrol the campus on foot or by vehicle to enforce parking rules and regulations, issue citations, and respond to calls for service. This position requires independent judgment, professionalism, and strong communication skills while engaging with students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Parking Operations & Enforcement
- Patrol campus parking areas by foot or vehicle to enforce parking rules and regulations.
- Issue citations in accordance with university policies and applicable regulations.
- Respond to calls for service related to parking or vehicle assistance in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with day-to-day operations of Transportation Services, including coordination with Parking Enforcement Representatives and student assistants.
- Work independently while maintaining accountability and accuracy in documentation and reporting.
Special Events & Coordination
- Coordinate and assist with parking operations during campus special events, ensuring efficient traffic flow and positive customer experiences.
- Collaborate with other departments and personnel during large-scale events or emergency situations.
- Support logistical planning and on-site event coordination to align with department goals and operational standards.

Position Information
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated as non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Working hours are Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and may vary based on operational needs. This schedule will begin after a two-month training period, during which the hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
Transportation Services provides comprehensive mobility services and transportation planning for the SDSU community. We employ a diverse team of professionals who coordinate and deliver parking, transit, micromobility, car sharing, vanpooling, and other transportation needs. Our staff provide information and customer service to our campus community for permits, citation appeals, and fleet vehicle driving certification. TS manages many vendor contracts in order to deliver services efficiently, affordably, and professionally. TS Parking Representatives are responsible for the enforcement of parking rules and regulations on campus, in addition to providing parking and traffic support for numerous events.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; possession of a California Driver's License; and one year of related experience.
Key Qualifications
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance, and ability to lift 30 pounds without assistance.
- Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to parking and traffic control.
- Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems.
- Working knowledge of parking-related equipment and technology.
- Ability to write standard parking incident reports in a clear and concise manner.
- Working knowledge of applicable radio systems.
- Ability to observe and recall details and incidents, as well as detect and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.
- Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals including the campus community and the general public.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and confidentiality.
- Ability to work overtime on an as needed basis to support special events for SDSU, Viejas Arena, Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, or as otherwise required. Overtime requirements may be consecutive days and operational periods of 10-14 hours.
Licenses/Certifications Required
Valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Compensation:
Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department's budget and equity guidelines.
- Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 12 ($4,605) for qualified candidates.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,703 - $5,395 per month (Step 1 - Step 20).
- Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
