Job Description

The Coast Community College District is a multi-college district that includes Coastline Community College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College. The three colleges offer programs in transfer, general education, occupational/technical education, community services and student support services. Coastline, Golden West and Orange Coast enroll more than 60,000 students each year in more than 300 degree and certificate programs.

Part-time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. As one of the largest community college districts in southern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, vocational and occupational programs. These part-time positions are on an as-needed basis and applicants should live within commuting distance to Orange County.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach courses, provide oversight, secure and work with volunteers and aids, and promote the adapted physical education program.

Adapted Kinesiology Teaching Responsibilities

  1. Provide instruction in Adapted physical education classes including but not limited to adapted aquatics, strength and balance, stretch, cardiovascular fitness, and aerobics.
  2. Maintain current knowledge in subject matter.
  3. Assesses students' physical and perceptual motor needs, progress, expectations, goals, etc. for the purpose of developing baseline information for placement, program development, and feedback to students.
  4. Providing specialized instructional techniques through individual or group sessions designed to meet the educational needs of students
  5. Assesses students' progress, expectations, goals, etc. and measure impacts.
  6. Develop, or make recommendations for specialized equipment, goals and objectives for the purpose of improving students' motor skills.
  7. Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective instruction to meet individual student needs
  8. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  9. Apply state and federal guidelines as related to teaching individuals with disabilities.
  10. Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a part-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines.
  11. Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  12. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  13. Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  14. Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
  15. Teach all scheduled classes.
  16. Maintain accurate records.
  17. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, on-line and/or off-campus classes.

Qualifications and Physical Demands

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d):
    a. Valid California Community College instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990).
    b. Master’s in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education.
    c. Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy.
    d. Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials.
  2. 15 semester units of upper division or graduate study in adapted physical education
  3. Evidence of a sensitivity to, understanding of, and the ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.

Licences and Certifications:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Valid driver license

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  2. Evidence of the ability to plan, organize, and administer an adapted physical education program.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively.
  4. Water Safety Instructor Certification and Lifeguard Certification

SALARY

Based on LHE (Lecture Hour Equivalent) in accordance with the current Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
