Duties and Responsibilities
Application Pool Notice
Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.
Position Requirements
Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in the area of Medical Office Assisting. Develop curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the competencies addressed in the particular area of Medical Office Clerk.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop course/program curriculum to address the particular area of instruction via remote, face-to-face, or hybrid courses
- Prepare tailored course documentation such as lesson plans, course syllabi, assignments, quizzes, and exams.
- Follow daily lesson plans to ensure quality, consistency, and uniformity of classroom instruction and student conduct
- Keep accurate attendance records and submit required Continuing Education class documentation in a timely manner.
- Participate in in-service training activities offered by the Institution or department.
- Use current technology to enhance effectiveness, including but not limited to computers, overhead projectors, PowerPoint, and CANVAS platform.
- Measure each students progress through the use of written exams or performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives.
- Inform students of course progression and provide supplemental materials and/or instruction when necessary.
- Work a flexible schedule as determined by enrollment & assigned coordinator.
- Maintain FERPA standards as applied to a public institution.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Community Education, VP/Provost, and Laredo College President.
Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in Medical Administration, Medical Billing & Coding, or a related field
- Three years of professional work experience related to Medical Office support in a hospital or clinical setting.
Preferred:
- An Associates Degree in a Health Science related field.
- One year of teaching/training experience is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Good writing skills, vocabulary skills, and computer skills.
- Must be able to operate classroom technology, medical office equipment, and audio-visual instructional materials.
- Must be able to develop and use laboratory/lecture/online strategies that enhance teaching effectiveness and promote student learning.
- Must be ethical when evaluating student outcomes.
- Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants.
- Must be knowledgeable, professional, and concerned with the academic progress of participants.
- Bilingual, preferred.
- Must demonstrate enthusiasm.
- Must demonstrate initiative, be a self-starter, and positive role model.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
- Ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
