Job Description:

Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Head Track & Cross Country Coach, the Assistant Track & Cross Country Coach position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the University’s varsity track and cross country program. The Assistant Coach will primarily provide assistance in coaching instruction to Men’s and Women’s Cross Country athletes but will also have the opportunity to work with short and long sprint athletes. This position requires frequent interaction with the Head Coach, assistant Coaches and athletic trainers to help promote a successful and positive athletic experience for all track and cross-country student-athletes. This position works under general supervision of the Head Coach.

This position assists in planning, directing and coaching the women’s and men’s track and field/cross country intercollegiate athletes. The position will assist in the implementation of individualized track and cross country training programs for student-athletes assigned by the Head Coach. This position works closely with the Head Coach to facilitate training programs to enhance the student-athletes overall track and/or cross country performance. This position will also assist in the recruiting efforts for the men’s and women’s track and cross country programs and thus will require continuous interaction with the department’s compliance office and academic coordinator to evaluate prospective student-athlete’s admissibility and predict the academic success of admissible student-athletes to the track & cross country programs. This position will work approximately 10 hours per week during each of the three seasons of the track and field/cross country varsity sport seasons.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for enhancing the performance of approximately 50 student-athletes. Assist in the physical development of student-athletes for all phases of season, pre- and post-season practice and competitions. Assist with the implementation of the practice plans for Cross Country and Track athletes approved and/or established by the Head Coach. Assists with regular testing to determine progress and making needed individual adjustments.
  • Coordinates with Athletic Training and Strength & Conditioning staff on all aspects of team strength and condition programs and injury recovery and prevention with assigned track & cross-country student-athletes.
  • Assists in the recruiting efforts designed to attract academically qualified and athletically gifted student-athletes to the men’s & women’s track programs. Evaluates prospective student-athletes in-person and through reports from high school coaches on their athletic and academic performance. Keeps all recruiting records in good order and provides regular reports to the Head Coach on the recruitment status of each prospective student-athlete. Reports any major concerns or attention for recruitment related issues to the Head Coach.

Salary Range:

$20.00 - $25.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Approximately 1 - 2 years coaching experience and/or experience running track or cross country at the collegiate or professional level preferred.

Travel Required:

Some travel may be required.
