Location: Syracuse, NY
Pay Range: $1,440 - $1,700 per credit hour
Pay Determination: Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:
The Department of Film and Media Arts within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach CAR 402, Visual Effects Workshop, a three-credit hour course, during the Spring semester 2026.
CAR 402 Visual Effects Workshop I focuses on the prospect of integrating the 2D and 3D worlds within the context of contemporary visual effects, while developing clear professional-based workflows to be implemented in future creative art practice.

Qualifications:
- BFA or MFA in Animation, Visual Effects, Computer Art, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Two semesters of college-level teaching experience required.
- Significant professional experience in visual effects production.
- Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary visual effects pipelines, including pre-production, production, and post-production processes.
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools and workflows across 2D and/or 3D animation and visual effects.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to teach the integration of 2D and 3D visual elements within a workshop-based learning environment.
- Experience delivering project-based instruction that emphasizes professional, production-oriented workflows for visual effects.
- Ability to guide students in translating conceptual ideas into technically sound visual outcomes using industry-standard software for 2D/3D integration and compositing (such as After Effects, Nuke, Maya, Blender, or equivalent).
- Strong commitment to mentoring students in developing clear, sustainable workflows applicable to future creative and professional practice.
Responsibilities:
Teaching a 4-hour studio course once a week, grading, class prep, office hours, field trips, etc.
In addition:
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
