Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in Health Information Management. The Department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part-time faculty in this area.

This is NOT an announcement of a specific open position, but a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool, from which the department will identify applicants based on course assignment needs during the Academic Year. Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full term class assignments.

Instructor Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management
  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator
  • Three years work experience in the Health Information Management profession.

Course Specific Requirements:

HIM 182:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Health Care Administration, Masters in Public Health or related graduate degree, or other recognized credential or license in a healthcare field
  • Three years related experience within the previous five year period.

HIM 270, HIM 273 and HIM 276:

  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Three years ICD9-CM/ICD-10 coding experience in an acute care facility within previous five year period.

HIM 272 and HIM 277:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management
  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator
  • Three years management experience in the Health Information Management profession.

HIM 275

  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist(CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Five years recent experience in CPT coding.
