Part Time Faculty Interest Pool - Humanities
Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in Humanities. The Department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part-time faculty in this area.
This is NOT an announcement of a specific open position, but a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool, from which the department will identify applicants based on course assignment needs during the Academic Year. Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full term class assignments.

Instructor Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Humanities, History, Literature, Religious Studies, Art History, Music, Philosophy, Culture Studies
- OR
- Master's degree in any field
- 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in any of the above
- OR
- Master's degree in any field
- 15 quarter hours of graduate credit in any of the above
- Experience as lead instructor for at least 4 college-level Humanities courses
- OR
- Master's degree in any field
- 16-29 quarter hours of graduate credit in any of the above
- Experience as lead instructor for at least 2 college-level Humanities courses
For HUM 214 only:
- Any of the above
- OR
- Master's degree or PhD in American Studies, Asian American Studies, Black Studies, Chicano/Latino Studies, Comparative Ethnic Studies, Critical Race Studies, Ethnic Studies, Indigenous Nations Studies, Native American Studies
For HUM 221 only:
- Any of the above
- Certified as a Phi Theta Kappa's Leadership Development Studies Instructor
* This list may not be inclusive as there are other degree titles that may be appropriate for the subject and related areas. The Division Dean, consultation with the SAC chair will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction about the applicability of a particular degree that is outside the scope of this list. The Department Chair can determine the applicability of a particular degree to teaching a specific Humanities course.
Provisional Approval
A part-time instructor without a Masters or Doctorate may be approved if they have 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the subject area and are actively pursuing the degree and are anticipated to be awarded the degree within six months of hire, as determined by the instructor's graduate advisor (a letter from the advisor will be required and kept on file.)

Note Regarding Academic Credentials
- Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required in the stated Instructor Qualifications.
- Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation. Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard. These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.

Part-time Faculty Compensation at PCC
Newly hired Part-time Faculty at PCC will generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule.
Hourly rates are determine based upon the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab).
