The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is seeking an individual to lead COM 117 Multimedia Storytelling Labs on Wednesdays 5:15pm-6:35pm and Wednesdays 6:45pm-8:05pm during Fall 2025. The two labs are taught in conjunction with a main teaching section of Multimedia Storytelling, which is led by a lead instructor (3 credits). Chosen candidate should be able to attend the main teaching section on Mondays/Wednesdays 2:15pm-3:35pm as well as the lab sections.
Course Description: This class is a foundation course required for all majors in the Newhouse School. Students work collaboratively in teams of three to produce a variety of short films that tell stories that persuade, document, and entertain predefined audiences. Basic story structure is taught as well as how to write and edit stories for video production. Students learn digital photography, videography, and editing for sound and picture.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree required. Familiar with story development and the production process for persuasive, non-fiction, and fiction storytelling. Able to evaluate student script writing and video editing for team projects. Have basic skills in digital photography, video, and audio. Familiar with the primary software package used by the students in the class: Adobe Premiere.
Responsibilities: Viewing the syllabus course content for each week in advance of lab sessions. Following guidance from lead instructor on topics related to course materials, student questions and progress, assignments, and exams. Ability to meet during all designated class periods. Leading lab instruction. Grade any assignments in a timely manner based on instructions/rubrics provided. Submit completed progress reports and grades to the instructor for use in final grading for the course.
Physical Requirements: Ability to personally instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet. Ability to hold office hours on campus. Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
Tools/Equipment: Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
