Job Summary
Gordon State College invites applications for the position of Part Time Instructor of English/Literature to teach fully online undergraduate courses. Applicants must be qualified to teach English Composition I and II and/or Literature courses (American, British, or World).
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning, academic excellence, and proactive engagement in a fully online environment. Adjunct faculty are expected to maintain regular and meaningful communication with students, provide timely and substantive feedback, and actively support institutional student success initiatives. Responsibilities include entering course attendance, completing progress reports, and complying with all institutional deadlines and reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned online courses in English Composition I and/or II and/or Literature (American, British, or World).
- Deliver high-quality instruction through the College’s learning management system (LMS), Brightspace by D2L.
- Design or maintain course materials consistent with departmental learning outcomes and institutional standards.
- Provide clear expectations, grading rubrics, and timely, constructive feedback.
- Maintain proactive and consistent communication with students to foster engagement and academic success.
- Monitor student progress and intervene early when concerns arise.
- Submit accurate and timely attendance records.
- Complete required progress reports and other student success–related initiatives.
- Hold virtual office hours and respond promptly to student inquiries.
- Uphold academic integrity and adhere to all college and USG policies.
- Participate in required training and professional development activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in English, Literature, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English or Literature.
- Demonstrated qualifications to teach English Composition I and II and/or Literature (American, British, or World).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching online at the collegiate level.
- Experience teaching first-year composition courses.
- Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., D2L, Blackboard, Canvas).
- Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and supporting diverse learners.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines consistently.
