The School of Education seeks an online instructor to teach SWK 709 (M700):Practice With Children, Adolescents and Families (3 credits).
Description:
This class is an in-depth analysis of issues commonly faced in working with children, adolescents, and their families. The course investigates the principles at work in the dynamics in these families and in the organizations in which they are situated. Using a systems theory approach and current research findings, the course focuses on treatment approaches that are most efficacious in the remediation of specific problems for children, adolescents, and families.
SWK 709 is an advanced practice course building on the knowledge base and skills acquired by students in SWK 626 and SWK 730. The course is designed to sharpen students' capacity to understand and formulate strategies to systematically intervene in common problems faced by children, adolescents, and their families. Students will have the opportunity to apply specific techniques to select problems from a strengths-based perspective. This course places a special emphasis on understanding the thinking, behavior, and treatment of adolescents in their family and school contexts.
This section is taught synchronous/asynchronous online through our Online MSW Program
Qualifications
- MSW with previous online graduate-level social work teaching experience preferred.
- Candidate must have two years post-masters experience.
- Must be able to teach online.
Responsibilities
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Preparation of lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Meeting all designated class periods.
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
- Completion and submission of CSWE competency-based student outcomes for department assessment/accreditation.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
Pay Range
$2,023.37 - $2,084.07 per credit hour
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Class meets: Mondays, 6:00-7:30 PM EST (Sync), w/async content management (async opens 1/6/2026) Office hours required.
