Job Summary

Teach applied guitar lessons in both classical and contemporary styles and recruit a studio of music and music education majors with a principal guitar instrument.

Responsibilities

Teach applied guitar in both classical and contemporary styles and recruit a studio of Music and Music Education majors with guitar as the principal instrument.

Teach regularly in at least one area of the greater Music and/or Music Education curricula in addition to applied lessons.

Actively participate in recruitment of students to the Music and Music Education majors. Fulfill periodic departmental duties (e.g., service on jury and recital grading committees).

Required Qualifications

An earned master's degree in Music

Successful applied classical guitar teaching experience

Familiarity with jazz/commercial guitar styles and techniques

Ability to teach applied lessons in both classical and jazz styles and recruit a studio

At least one of the qualifications listed below under "Preferred Qualifications."

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach applied lessons on additional plucked string instruments (e.g., lute, mandolin, ukulele, banjo)

Ability to teach courses in an interdisciplinary departmental concentration in audio production/music business

Ability to teach other courses integral to the Music and/or Music Education majors (e.g., Elementary Methods, String Methods, Aural Skills, Improvisation)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Successful applied classical guitar teaching experience

Familiarity with jazz/commercial guitar styles and techniques

Ability to teach applied lessons in both classical and jazz styles and recruit a studio
