Part-time Music Professor, Trombone – Continuous Pool

Clark College is currently seeking to fill a part-time Music Professor as a Music Applied Lesson Instructor teaching Trombone. Clark College offers a two-year Music Direct Transfer Degree. Students are required to take 6 quarters of Music Theory, Ear Training, and applied lessons on the instrument of their choice. The instructor will only teach in quarters where there is a music major who is currently enrolled or has taken music theory and ear training, is pursuing the Music DTA, and has declared the trombone as their preferred instrument. This part-time position is an ongoing recruitment in which applications are collected year-round. Applicants must be available to teach the daytime, evening or weekend hours. GENERAL FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruct classes utilizing techniques and knowledge of the discipline that facilitate student learning.
  • Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in department and college committees.
  • Pursue professional development.
  • Strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques.
  • Work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Understand and commit to the mission of Clark College.

SPECIFIC POSITION FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide written syllabus detailing contact information, required materials, and grading policies.
  • Instruct ten one-on-one hour-long lessons in person for each student throughout the quarter.
  • Prepare students for end of quarter juries that take place on campus in front of the tenured music faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Performance or Education.
  • Two (2) years of instructing Trombone students one-on-one.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
