Job Description:
The Nursing Simulation Operations Specialist supports day-to-day operations of the nursing simulation and skills labs to ensure high-quality, standards-aligned simulation-based learning experiences. The role partners with faculty to set up, run, and break down simulations; maintains manikins, task trainers, and AV systems; and helps align lab practices with recognized accreditation standards and best practices. inacsl.org, ssih.org
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the efficiency of laboratory education
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Fosters the general goals of the school as derived from the mission statement
- Simulation Delivery & Support
- Prepare, program, and operate high-, mid-, and low-fidelity manikins, task trainers, and standardized patient activities during simulations and skills sessions. inacsl.org
- Run simulation sessions (including moulage, scenario triggers, vital sign changes, and real-time troubleshooting) and support pre-briefing and debriefing workflows alongside faculty inacsl.org
- Capture and manage audio/video using the center's AV platform; ensure secure storage and retrieval aligned to institutional policy ssih.org
- Maintain inventory; coordinate repairs, preventative maintenance, and software/firmware updates for simulators and AV systems; track consumables and place orders ssih.org
- Create and maintain equipment SOPs, quick-start guides, and checklists that reflect current best practices (e.g., INACSL HSSOBP® Operations) inacsl.org
- Help implement and document practices consistent with the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice® (e.g., Prebriefing, Facilitation, Debriefing, Operations, Professional Integrity). inacsl.org
- Support program documentation and evidence collection to meet Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) Accreditation standards (Core plus applicable domains)
- Assist faculty alignment with state and national guidance on simulation substitution in prelicensure nursing (e.g., NCSBN Simulation Guidelines and findings from the NCSBN National Simulation Study). ncsbn.org, ncsbn.org
- Train faculty and student workers on simulator/AV use, room turnover, and basic troubleshooting; promote psychological safety and professional integrity in all SBE activities. inacsl.org
- Contribute to continuous improvement: gather feedback, track session metrics, and recommend enhancements to scenarios, equipment, and workflows aligned with standards. inacsl.org

- Knowledge, skill, and experience with simulation
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of people and groups
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
- Successfully pass a background check
- Experience working with video recording and projection equipment and human patient simulators
- Organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills
Education:
- New York State RN License
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Master of Science in Nursing preferred
- Current CPR certification
Experience:
- 1+ year in simulation operations, clinical skills lab support, healthcare technology, or closely related technical support role in an academic or healthcare setting. (Relevant internships or vendor training considered) laerdal.com
Physical Requirements:
- Must be capable of lifting 25 pounds, able to shift, push and pull simulation equipment
Salary: $27-$36 USD/hour, depending on experience and local market conditions.
Hours Expectation:
- Part-time, 29 hours or less per week
- ~15-25 hours/week (peak hours aligned to simulation calendar; some early mornings/evenings)
