Job Summary:
The Social Work & Sociology Department in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences seeks a Part-Time Practicum Liaison (roles available in the Fall '26 and Spring '27 semesters) to support the practicum education component of its fully online Master of Social Work (MSW) program. The Marist University online MSW program launched successfully in June 2025 and is currently under review by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The program has completed Benchmark 2 and is awaiting action by the Board of Accreditation (BOA), with plans to advance to Benchmark 3.
Practicum Liaisons play a vital role in supporting students, field/practicum supervisors, and program faculty during this critical phase of program development and accreditation. The Part-Time Practicum Liaison carries a 6-credit workload each semester, typically distributed across the fall (6 credits) and spring semesters (6 credits), and is assigned to a specific student cohort (either the Two-Year cohort or the Specialized/Advanced Standing cohort). Liaison works collaboratively with the Practicum Education Coordinator and program leadership to ensure high-quality, trauma-informed, and competency-based practicum learning experiences aligned with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards.
Most responsibilities are conducted in a virtual format and include maintaining regular contact with students and practicum supervisors, supporting professional development and ethical practice, assessing student progress in practicum, and contributing to supervisor training initiatives.
We seek practitioners and educators who model social work values, demonstrate strong relational and communication skills, and are committed to supporting students in online, employment-based, and community-based practicum settings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MSW from a CSWE Accredited Social Work Program
Essential Functions:
- Provide high-quality virtual practicum instruction and support by maintaining organized and engaging Learning Management System (LMS) course sites (Brightspace) for assigned practicum seminar courses and cohort-specific practicum materials.
- Serve as the primary practicum liaison for an assigned student cohort, maintaining regular communication with students and practicum supervisors in a fully online format.
- Conduct virtual and/or on ground practicum site visits and meetings with students and supervisors to monitor student progress, support learning goals, and address concerns related to professional development and ethical practice.
- Provide individual consultation and coaching to practicum supervisors as needed to support student learning and competency development.
- Meet individually with students to provide guidance related to practicum learning, performance, and integration of theory and practice.
- Teach assigned 1 credit practicum seminar courses using a trauma-informed, relational, and competency-based approach appropriate for an asynchronous online MSW program.
- Participate in and co-facilitate practicum supervisor training and professional development activities, such as SIFI and Lunch & Learn sessions, in collaboration with the Practicum Education team.
- Attend required virtual MSW program and practicum meetings (approximately three times per semester) and collaborate with program faculty and staff as needed to support practicum operations.
- Contribute to CSWE accreditation, assessment, and reporting processes related to practicum education, as appropriate to the role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience serving as a practicum liaison, field/practicum instructor, clinical supervisor, or agency-based supervisor for social work students.
- Familiarity with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) and competency-based assessment in social work education.
- Experience supporting students in online, hybrid, or distance education settings, including use of a learning management system (e.g., Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard).
- Demonstrated ability to provide coaching and consultation to practicum supervisors, including addressing student performance concerns in a supportive and ethical manner.
- Experience facilitating professional development or training for supervisors (e.g., SIFI, supervision workshops, Lunch & Learn formats).
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple student and supervisor relationships in a virtual environment.
- Commitment to trauma-informed, anti-racist, and equity-centered social work practice and education.
