Job Summary: The MCL Student Assistant contributes to the marketing, coordination, and logistics functions of Cal Maritime’s Career Services Office. Under supervision of the Career Services Director and lead direction from the Career Services Administrative Coordinator and Career Coordinator/Advisor, the MCL Student Assistant will develop and apply skills and tactics in marketing (strategy, segmentation, digital and print collateral design and promotion); coordination (virtual and in-person event staffing, program content contribution, speaker/employer scheduling); and logistics (event supplies management/distribution, process guides development) while gaining experience in higher education student affairs/career services operations, maritime industry and related workforce development, and program and event coordination. Student Assistant might also have other duties to meet emerging needs. Marketing-related software/tech student might use: PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Instagram, LinkedIn, Omni Web Developer, YouTube. Coordination software/tech intern might use: Canvas, Outlook Calendar; MS Teams, Zoom. Logistics software/tech intern will use: MS Word, Excel, Forms and Planner. In addition to supporting weekly career development workshops, class presentations, and meet the employer events, MCL intern will provide support for university and partner events, including staffing if not in conflict with class schedule.
About the California State University Maritime Academy:
Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on the scenic Vallejo waterfront, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 50 graduate students.
Cal Maritime offers seven baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, International Strategy and Security, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Transportation, and Oceanography. The undergraduate curriculum includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard, and naval reserve officers. Cal Maritime also offers a Master of Science in Transportation and Engineering Management degree, as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses.
