The Community for Rigor (C4R) is an initiative, based out of the University of Pennsylvania, dedicated to strengthening scientific rigor and transparency in biomedical research. The Part-Time Social Media Associate will play a key role in expanding C4R's visibility and engagement across digital platforms. You'll help to exponentially grow C4R's social media following and engagement, which should ultimately lead to new member sign-ups; You'll plan and produce content that promotes C4R's educational materials, programs, and events.
This role is for a high-energy science communicator and community engager who will keep C4R highly active across channels every day. The core goal is to talk about scientific rigor, share and amplify C4R materials across platforms, engage directly with researchers and trainees, spark discussion, and help promote community activities around our programs and ideas. We are looking for someone proactive, outgoing, fast-moving, and excited to be in conversation with the scientific community every day.
Job Responsibilities
Digital Communications & Social Media
- Post daily on multiple channels, and reply daily to comments and messages to keep our audience engaged and increase our visibility.
- Grow our social media following and engagement exponentially and organically, and convert followers into C4R members by encouraging sign-ups to our mailing list.
- Manage and grow C4R's YouTube channel - including creating and uploading videos, optimizing titles and descriptions, creating thumbnails, organizing playlists, and experimenting with strategies to grow subscribers and engagement.
- Create and manage engaging content (eye-catching visuals, infographics, and simple animations using our existing brand and design assets) for our social media channels(LinkedIn, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky, Slack).
- On-camera interviewing and facilitation: Interview students, professors, and subject-matter experts in person, and translate insights into engaging video narratives.
- Travel to conferences, including the C4R annual Conference, to create social media content and promote our participation.
- Track analytics and engagement to help us understand what resonates and where we can grow.
- Keep our brand voice consistent, positive, and welcoming.
Campaign Strategy & Outreach
- Contribute ideas and support for promotional and outreach campaigns.
- Identify and help us connect with new audiences and networks in creative ways.
Other related duties and special projects may be assigned as needed to support C4R's goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree and at least 2 years of experience in social media management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Deep understanding of scientific and academic audiences. Must be a scientist with a flair for new media and science communication.
- Must have a proven record of exponential, organic social growth, demonstrated by managing one or more accounts that achieved 5,000+ net new followers within a 12-month period, along with a minimum 2× increase in average engagement rate, driven entirely through organic content and community strategy (no paid advertising).
- Strong graphic design and layout skills (Figma proficiency required).
- Basic video editing or motion graphics skills.
- Experience with YouTube content creation, management & growth.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong interpersonal and on-camera interviewing skills, with the ability to make people feel at ease and capture authentic, engaging video content.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience with social media analytics.
