Part-time Staff: Career Services Specialist
Job Summary
The Career Services Specialist plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the MCC Penn Valley Career Services Office by supporting student engagement, career readiness programs, employer relations, and overall office functions. Under the guidance of the Career Services Coordinator, the Specialist connects students to resources, assists in planning and executing events, and helps ensure a seamless and positive experience for students, faculty, staff, employers, and other stakeholders interacting with the office.
Essential Functions
- Provide assistance to students through in-person, phone, and email communication.
- Support career readiness programming such as resume reviews, mock interviews, job search workshops, and career fairs.
- Maintain career services databases and appointment systems, record student participation and employer engagement data
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and promoting departmental events such as employer visits, classroom presentations, and campus recruiting activities.
- Prepare and distribute materials, flyers, and digital communications highlighting Career Services programs.
- Greet and assist visitors; respond to inquiries and refer individuals to appropriate staff or campus resources.
- Support the creation and updating of bulletin boards and display materials promoting student employment and success stories.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing clerical, administrative, or customer service support.
- Experience working in higher education, workforce development, or a career center environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and employer base.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Customer service orientation and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and community partners.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically requires feeling, grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
