Part Time - Student Activities Specialist
Job Summary
To assist in the day-to-day management of the Kruse Center for the benefit of the members and the college community. This position is responsible for supervision of member services, cardio/weight room, athletic events, intramural sports, and other recreation activities.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provides coverage on evenings and weekends as needed based on facility and/or game day needs).
- Monitors activities in the Kruse Center, the front counter with top-level customer service and ensure a safe workout environment through constant circulation of the fitness room, indoor track, and the playing court.
- Supervise patrons and enforce facility rules in the Kruse Center. Enforce all building policies and procedures, such as no bags on the floor and proper dress code for all users.
- Assist with game management of Blinn College home athletic events and provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Performs opening and closing tasks (locking/unlocking of building, check working order of equipment).
- Report any incident of injury, theft, or broken equipment to the Supervisor on duty.
- Assist Shift Supervisor during intramural sport events (open gym, tournaments, etc.) and other recreation activities especially during peak times.
- Attends all relevant trainings, meetings, workshops, and departmental events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
- Ability to work late nights and weekends.
- General knowledge of recreational sports, arts, and cultural activities.
- General knowledge of weight equipment and lifting techniques.
Minimum Competencies
- Ability to be flexible, multi-task and prioritize, work within time constraints is essential.
- Maintain open and clear communication effectively with faculty, staff, students, and athletes, coaches, outside contractors, visiting teams, and general public.
- Maintain a schedule adaptable to program needs.
- Ability to understand, follow and implement written, verbal and demonstrated instructions.
- Computer skills, general knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Experience working in a fitness/recreation facility.
- Experience supervising others.
Preferred Competencies
- Knowledge of a variety of sports to the extent of being able to referee those sports during intramural games if needed.
- Demonstrating proper weight lifting techniques and being able to assist other students to do the same in the cardio/weight room of the Kruse Center.
