The Radiology Department is currently hiring for the position of Patient Services Associate. As a vital member of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing frontline support for our patients. This position involves checking in and prepping patients, handling incoming calls, scheduling appointments, processing payments, and ensuring patients complete necessary documentation. The individual chosen for this position will be responsible for meeting the highest standards of customer service, including exhibiting a professional and positive image when interacting with patients and co-workers.
- Accurately verify patient information, including demographic details, medical history, and insurance coverage.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Accurately check patients in/out and process credit card payments.
- As needed, assist patients with completing their questionnaires.
- Assist call center, referring clinics, and patients with telephone inquiries. Triage phone calls appropriately if unable to directly assist.
- Coordinate and schedule Radiology exams.
- Walk patients to and from the appropriate changing areas. This can also include maneuvering patients in wheelchairs.
- Accurately enter patient, study, and physician information into patient's charts.
- Assist and direct patients as needed for the following imaging modalities: General Imaging, Mammography, Computed Tomography (CT), and Ultrasound (US), Bone Density and MRI.
- Upload images from a CD. Accurately record and forward phone messages.
- Consistently uphold the Radiology Gold Standard and Customer Service guidelines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an ever-changing and potentially stressful environment.
- Demonstrate proper leadership and communication skills when assisting patients, staff, or providers with problem resolution.
- Unload, lift and stock linens, oral contrast bottles, and office supplies. Maintain a clean work area in compliance with Joint Commission standards.
- Performs other clerical duties as directed by lead, supervisor, or manager
- Identify and track reoccurring operational problems and participate in resolution.
- Participate in creating efficient patient flow coordinating with nursing, technical staff and faculty.
- Required to have knowledge and adhere to University and Departmental policies and procedures.
- Train and cover across different modalities and various sites within the Radiology Department.
- Flexibility as schedules can change suddenly due to coverage needs. The department makes every effort to provide consistent schedules; however, shifts and schedules may be adjusted as necessary to meet patient care and operational requirements.
- Serve as chaperone/screening coverage as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of customer service experience is preferred.
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to Multitask in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinical setting.
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent attendance record.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm, dependability, initiative, and ability to prioritize.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in Radiology, a related position, or a health care environment.
- Familiar with UMHS policies and procedures
- Experience with Epic/MiChart and Microsoft Office tools.
- Familiar with basic medical terminology.
Schedule: Monday - Friday: Two 10-hour shifts, varying day and start times, 6:30am - 9:30am. Every Saturday 6:30am-4:30pm.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
