Job Summary:
Bucknell University is seeking a Performing Arts Technician, for a casual, non-benefits-eligible role. The Performing Arts Technician provides recurring technical support for rehearsals and performances at The Weis Center for the Performing Arts and occasionally support at events sponsored by The Weis Center for the Performing Arts at other venues such as The Campus Theatre. With technical knowledge, the Performing Arts Technician pool provides all manner of production services including lighting, audio, video, rigging, staging, stage management, occasional front-of-house assistance, and other duties as requested. This position assists with productions spanning multiple genres such as music, dance, theater, and lectures. Performing Arts Technicians are expected to provide excellent support and services to students, faculty, staff, and external clients. They will be directed by the full-time staff to exceed client expectations in a supportive and helpful manner.

Job Duties:
What You Will Do:

  • In preparation for events, assist with load in, setup, operation, strike and load out of staging, lighting, audio, projections and other technical elements. Assist with front-of-house operations when needed.console operator, audio console engineer, or event assistant.
  • Serve flexible roles during rehearsals and performances, including deckhand, stage manager, lighting console operator, audio console operator and running any additional audio/visual equipment.
  • In cooperation with the Technical Director/Assistant Technical Director, supervise, help train and support Weis Center student staff.
  • Support events using Weis Center technologies held outside of venue, such as outdoors or in multi-purpose spaces.
  • Help maintain stage and venue safety in compliance with OSHA and University standards.
  • Other duties as assigned: Participates in all aspects of program and department planning and in the establishment of department goals and objectives.

What You Will Bring

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Experience in live event operations, preferably in a university setting or comparable experience in the live event industry.
  • Willingness and ability to work with a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays and long hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and understanding of at least one of the following production elements: lighting systems, audio reinforcement, and stage management

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, work at heights, and safely handle rigging needs at Weis Center.
  • Ability to stay on feet for extended periods of time when necessary to complete tasks

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
