Duties & Responsibilities

The VCU School of Pharmacy (SOP) PharmD Curriculum Coordinator will serve as a key liaison among faculty, students, and administration to provide comprehensive administrative support for the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. Core responsibilities include overseeing course organization in the learning management system (Canvas), coordinating instructional logistics of skills-based courses, managing absence and make-up processes, and facilitating communication among stakeholders. The PharmD Curriculum Coordinator also supports student success by coordinating tutoring programs, monitoring exam retake eligibility, and assisting with orientation and academic support initiatives. Through attention to detail, strong communication, and proactive coordination, the PharmD Curriculum Coordinator contributes to the efficient operation of the PharmD Curriculum.

  1. Support the course management and instructional delivery of the professional program in the School of Pharmacy.
    • Provide administrative oversight for designated courses and act as a liaison between course coordinators, students, and external stakeholders to facilitate course delivery.
    • Standardize course layouts in the Learning Management System (Canvas) ensuring course syllabi meet current standards and policies and course materials meet accessibility requirements.
    • Assist adjunct instructors with Canvas course set-up and navigating VCU systems (e.g. Banner)
    • Manage and coordinate scheduling, logistics, and resources for skills-based course sessions
    • Support the administration of summer course offerings including Canvas course set-up and scheduling of exams
  2. Support PharmD student success and progression in the program.
    • Review and approve PharmD student absence requests
    • Oversee process for making up exams/assignments due to absences or retakes
    • Support exam administration including acting as an exam proctor and preparing materials for exams
    • Coordinate Academic Performance Committee meetings including tracking eligibility for exam retakes.
    • Coordinate tutoring efforts including creating a master schedule of available student support for courses, tracking usage, and facilitating training of tutors and teaching assistants.
    • Collaborate with Office of Admissions and Student Success to support PharmD student orientation activities

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-5 years of administrative experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to collaborate as a team member and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment that has demands from diverse constituent groups.
  • Ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality including knowledge of guidelines for handling sensitive information, familiarity with FERPA and other Federal requirements related to managing student information
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and function independently. Must be precise, thorough, and reliable, and perform daily activities with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace applications
  • Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress, imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, or student/faculty contact
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Canvas, Navigate, and ExamSoft

Salary Range

$55,000-$60,000
